FIRE-Brand Lyavite

For those who are unaware, there is a certain vanguard incursion site called "Nation Mining Colony". To complete the site, you have to clear out the spawns to make a can spawn, then deposit a stack of 255 units of an ore called lyavite into the can to destroy some scenery and get paid. There's a rock of it in the site itself, but mining it and ferrying it back to the drop point can take quite some time, so most incursion runners prefer to keep or buy a stock of lyavite on hand to make the drop more quickly.

These stacks of lyavite sell on contracts for around 1 million isk – which works out to a bit under 4,000 isk per unit. So, about two weeks ago, I ran an incursion mining op for my alliance. For 4 hours, I had between six and eight procurers and skiffs following my vanguard fleet around mining out those lyavite rocks.

We wound up with ~330 thousand units of lyavite, or ~1,300 stacks. Sold at full price, it would bring in 1.3 billion isk, on top of the isk payouts from the incursion sites themselves.

Of course, selling it all at full price would take quite a while, and I don't quite have the patience for that. Most of it went up on contracts at half-price in Amarr and Jita, and a few have already been taken, but I've also been setting up smaller-scale contracts at full price as I make my rounds of incursion zones, to bump up the return a bit.

For anyone who might be interested in replicating our effort, here are the fits we used for the mining barges; below them is a quick step-by-step of how we did it. In groups, one Skiff can replace its Survey Scanner with a Target Painter and have the rest of the barges assist their combat drones. You should be able to kill off any additional spawns and use the ASB and shield bots to restore shields once they're gone.

  1. Assemble a standard VG fleet and add your miners in another squad or wing.
  2. Warp your entire fleet to the gate of an NMC.
  3. Have your miners hold on the gate while the rest of your fleet enters the site.
  4. Upon landing, have your anchor head for the lyavite asteroid, launch mining drones, and begin mining it.
  5. Proceed through the site as normal. Mining the lyavite triggers additional spawns; as they appear, kill them as well. Like normal belt rats, they grant an aggression timer, so do not be alarmed by its presence. Feel free to recall mining drones once two such spawns have been triggered, as any further spawns can be dealt with by the miners themselves.
  6. Once the drop can has spawned and any mining-triggered spawns have been killed, give the miners the all-clear.
  7. Miners enter the site and afterburn across the 70km to the lyavite asteroid while the combat fleet warps out to do another site (it's best to do non-NMC sites until the miners have finished with the first one).
